Deborah Blumenthal

Deborah Blumenthal is the author of twenty-two books, most of them for children, including two Book Sense 76 winners: Aunt Claire's Yellow Beehive Hair, (Dial Books) and Don't Let The Peas Touch, (Levine/Scholastic). Voya wrote of her debut young adult novel, The Lifeguard (Whitman, Spring 2012),"The writing style is reminiscent of Sarah Dessen…this is a touching love story with just a hint of magic and mysticism to please teen romance readers." And in a Kirkus review of her 2016 young adult novel, Hurricane Kiss: “Exciting descriptions of the savage storm sustain the suspense nicely. A neatly wrought survival tale.”

Deborah is also an award-winning journalist and was a regular contributor to The New York Times, where she spent four years as the Sunday New York Times Magazine beauty columnist. She has written for many other magazines and newspapers, including Vogue, Bazaar, GQ, Woman's Day, Family Circle, Cosmopolitan, The Washington Post, and The Los Angeles Times. Her picture book, The Blue House Dog (Peachtree Publishers) was nominated for three state reading awards and named a 2011 honor book by the Society of School Librarians International. Deborah is also the author of Fancy Party Gowns, the story of fashion designer Ann Cole Lowe, and Polka Dot Parade, a picture book about the New York Times street fashion photographer, Bill Cunningham.
