Jess Townes

Jess Townes fell in love with stories as a child, and she is thrilled to come full circle to write for children. She spent her early years tucked away with a book, writing magazines, performing in musicals, and daydreaming about attending a boarding school for concert cellists. She did not play the cello. She never listened when her parents told her not to talk to strangers, and as a result, she has yet to meet one.

She has since worked in public education, non-profit development, birth and lactation services, as a freelance writer and an actress, but her favorite part of any job is the connections she builds with other people. She believes that there is no better path to those connections than through our stories.

Jess is an active member of SCBWI and serves as the Assistant Regional Advisor for the Missouri region. She is also a writer and content coordinator at All the Wonders, a digital home for celebrating children’s literature. She is published in print and online at Mamalode Magazine. Jess lives near St. Louis, Missouri with her ukulele-strumming husband, two insatiably curious boys, a fifty-pound lap dog and the world’s greatest cat. Find her online at www.jesstownes.com
