Michelle Houts

Michelle Houts lives and plays on a family farm in Ohio. She writes middle grade fiction and nonfiction and picture books. Michelle enjoys reading, cooking and hiking anyplace that has hills because where she lives it is very flat. Michelle has been a special education teache and a speech-language pathologist. THE BEEF PRINCESS OF PRACTICAL COUNTY(Random House Children’s Books – Delacorte Press, 2009) was Michelle’s first novel for middle-grade readers. It received the 2010 International Reading Association Children’s Book Award for intermediate fiction and the 2011 Nebraska Agricultural Children’s Book of the Year. The story continues in THE PRACTICAL COUNTY DRAMA QUEEN (MuseItUp, 2014). Her most recent book, WINTERFROST (Candlewick Press, 2014) is a Junior Library Guild selection and was recognized as a Bank Street College Best Book of 2014. SEAGLASS SUMMER (Candlewick Press, forthcoming 2018) is Michelle’s much-anticipated picture book illustrated by Bagram Ibatoulline.
