Robert Marstall

Bob Marstall is the illustrator of nine nonfiction children’s books, including the The Lady and the Spider, which sold over a quarter-of-a-million copies and was a Reading Rainbow selection. Bob has also been honored with an ALA Notable; an IRA Teachers’ Choice; a Smithsonian Magazine Notable Book for Children; and three John Burroughs selections. In addition, two of Bob’s books are included in the New York Times Parent’s Guide’s “1001 Best Books of the Twentieth Century.”

For the past twenty years Bob has worked out of a former toothbrush factory on the banks of a millpond, just upstream from Smith College in Northampton. Of his interest in wildlife, Bob says, “For most of my life I’ve had an insatiable curiosity about the natural world and my place in it. I still love to turn over rocks and logs to see what might be hiding there.” For more information about Bob, his picture books, school visits, and art, please see http://www.marstallstudio.com/.
