Astghik Kamalyan

Astrid Kamalyan is a children’s author with a deep connection to her Armenian heritage and a passion for sharing stories that celebrate culture and the joy of childhood. Born and raised in Armenia, Astrid spent many happy summers in the mountains of Artsakh.

Astrid’s debut picture book, BÁBO: A Tale of Armenian Rug-Washing Day, has garnered critical acclaim and audience recognition, establishing her as a standout voice in children’s literature. BÁBO is a New York Public Library Best Book of 2023, a Junior Library Guild Gold Standard Selection, and has earned starred reviews from Kirkus, The Horn Book, and Publishers Weekly.

Astrid divides her time between Chicago and Yerevan. She loves traveling with her husband and two sons, collecting picture books and Christmas ornaments from their trips.
