Barbara Herkert graduated from Hamline University’s MFAC program in December of 2008. She is the author of two nonfiction picture books and three picture book biographies, and her latest book, an informational picture book entitled This Old Madrone Tree, was released in September of 2023 by Web of Life Books. Heronry, an informational picture book, will be released in spring of 2026 by Sleeping Bear Press. Her picture book biography, A Boy, a Mouse and a Spider: The Story of E.B. White, was a finalist for the Oregon Book Awards. Barbara currently lives on the Olympic Peninsula of Washington with her family, a variety of wildlife, and an old Madrone tree for company.
