Kathryn Hagen

Kathryn Hagen has always loved language, learning, children, and writing. After receiving her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL, she combined her first three passions into work as a speech/language pathologist specializing in early language and literacy development. She later earned her Educational Specialist degree at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN, and worked as a special education administrator. Kathryn now joyously combines all of her passions to create nonfiction books for children. She thrills at diving into the stories of fascinating people and the marvels of the natural world, and bringing this wonder and awe to young minds and hearts through her books. Her debut picture book, Born to Dance: Mary Verdi-Fletcher and her Dancing Wheels, co-authored with Mary Verdi-Fletcher will be published by Knopf in Spring 2027. When not writing, Kathryn enjoys hiking and kayaking, travel, and teaching English to adult immigrants. Kathryn and her husband split their time between Minneapolis and the Philadelphia area.

Kathryn is represented by Eve Adler.
