Kim Woolcock

Kim Ryall Woolcock is a scientist turned writer. After earning her master’s in biology from Duke
University, she started telling stories about science, first at a natural history museum, then as a
freelance science writer and editor, and now as a medical writer and in her children’s books. She
is inspired by the creativity of science, the beauty of almost-invisible creatures, and the clink of
word against word.
Kim is the author of It’s Tough To Be Tiny (Flying Eye) which was shortlisted for The Week
Junior Book Awards and the co-author of Design Like Nature (Orca), which earned a Blueberry
Honor and SLJ star. When she’s not writing, she enjoys making things, like pottery, jam, and
mittens. She lives on a small island in the Salish Sea with her neurospicy family in a house they
built with their own hands.

Kim is represented by Sarah Stephens.
