Marty Kelley

Biography

Former band drummer, chef, and second grade teacher Marty Kelley has been dreaming up stories since he was just a young scallywag. Kirkus, in a starred review, said of (Almost) Everybody Farts (Union Square & Co.), “The subject in itself will elicit giggles, and the ingenious, catchy, and simple rhyme will compound those. But it is the color illustrations. . . that are utterly priceless.” Twelve Terrible Things (Tricycle Press) received a starred review in School Library Journal and a glowing write-up in The New York Times by none other than Lemony Snickett. Marty is also the author-illustrator of the eight-title chapter book series Molly Mac which has sold over 100,000 copies. His hybrid chapter book/graphic novel Pugnapped! (Union Square & Co.) was praised by Booklist which wrote, “this rib-tickler will pull chuckles even from earnest, young world savers and villain battlers.” A humorous picture book You Can’t is forthcoming from Sleeping Bear. Marty promotes his books by visiting over 120 schools per year throughout the country. When he’s not visiting schools, he enjoys building stone walls, painting watercolor portraits, and playing his drums.
