Silvia López was born in Cuba and emigrated to Miami as a child. Her lifelong love of books eventually led to a long career as a children’s librarian and later as a children’s author. Some of her books have earned starred reviews, won Florida Book Awards, and been chosen as Junior Library Guild selections. Silvia has also written a biography and an anthology of Latin American and Caribbean legends for the education market. Four more of her books are due for publication in 2026 and 2027: a third installment in a bilingual Easy Reader series as well as three more bilingual picture books, including one for the Smithsonian Institution. Her latest book Uno Más, One More: A Latino Retelling of an Old Scottish Ballad, illustrated by Olivia Sua and published by Little Brown under the Christy Ottaviano imprint, received a starred review in the School Library Journal. Silvia is a member of Las Musas and We need Diverse Books, and runs the Miami Critique Group for picture book writers. She is also co-founder of Bilingual Book Buddies, a podcast series promoting bilingual books for children.
