Sue MacLeod has embarked on her favorite genre—picture books—after decades of other kinds of writing. A former newspaper and magazine journalist, Sue has also been a freelance editor, and has published one YA novel (described by Kirkus as “emotional and powerful”) and three books of poetry for adults. In the early 2000s, she was inaugural Poet Laureate of her home city, Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Sue loves the challenge of picture-book writing because it calls for the skills of a poet (musicality and conciseness) and those of a fiction writer (character and plot). Also, it takes her back to one of her all-time best memories—sharing books when her daughter was a child. Sue’s stories range from rhyming to prose and from funny to poignant. Her main characters cover a wide range too. But with a leaning toward dogs. With attitude.
Sue (she/her) is represented by Abigail Samoun.
