Barbara Herkert
Barbara Herkert is the author of three picture book biographies: Sewing Stories: Harriet Powers’ Journey from Slave to Artist (Knopf, 2015); Mary Cassatt: Extraordinary Impressionist Artist (Christy Ottaviano/Henry Holt, 2015); and A Boy, a Mouse, and a Spider: The Story of E.B. White (Christy Ottaviano/Henry Holt, 2017) She loves discovering hidden gems about a person’s life, uncovering the obstacles they faced and celebrating their resilience to follow dreams. She received a MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults from Hamline University, and studied fine art and art history at Oregon State University. When she’s not on the Oregon Coast, you might find her in a log cabin in Central Oregon or aboard a tugboat in the Puget Sound with her family and three dogs.
